BAMSI EYES LOCAL TILAPIA MARKET

MICHAEL PINTARD, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources

NASSAU, Bahamas — About 3,000 tilapia being farmed on Andros are slated to hit the retail market in The Bahamas next year, according to the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI).

The farm-raised fish “will help fill the demand left after the closure of the Nassau grouper season”, notes a BAMSI release.

According to BAMSI, this announcement is the beginning of its move into aquaculture, also known as fish farming.

“Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources Michael Pintard said his primary interest is in the institute’s ability to utilize this enterprise as a research initiative, which would provide scientific data to Bahamians who may be interested in commercial aquaculture,” the release states.https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/08/31/bamsi-eyes-local-tilapia-market/
