“WE HAVE ACHIEVED A GREAT DEAL,” MINNIS TELLS PARTY SUPPORTERS

Prime Minister Hubert A. Minnis

NASSAU –Pledging that it is still “the people’s time” and the “people’s budget” is upcoming, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said last night that while his administration is open to criticism and has faltered on occasion, it has made good progress over the last year to the benefit of The Bahamas and Bahamians, who will see a number of key infrastructure projects in the months to come, the Nassau Guardian reported on May 11.

“We say it’s the people’s time,” said Minnis, at the FNM’s headquarters, where supporters gathered for the one-year anniversary celebration of the FNM’s victory at the polls last year.

“Soon, we will present the people’s budget, he said, adding that there “are a number of very promising investment prospects on the horizon, which will boost economic growth and jobs. These will be announced in due course. Our program of reform and transformation includes new thinking about the role of government as we create new and innovative ideas and partnerships for national development.”

Minnis’ assessment of the FNM’s first year in office was more than complimentary, a stark contrast to that of at least one of his parliamentary colleagues, who offered a more critical summation of the government’s performance.

Frederick McAlpine, the Pineridge MP, said on Wednesday that while there have been some highlights for his party to date, namely the reduction in serious crime and the prospects for the economy, the FNM’s performance has been disappointing.
