WASHINGTON, D.C. – His Excellency Sidney Collie, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), participated in a panel discussion on the impacts of climate change at The Atlantic Festival held at Rosa Mexicano Restaurant, 575 7th Street, N.W., on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.
Entitled “Our Shared Planet,” the panel allowed for a discussion on the effects of Hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas, and in his remarks, Ambassador Collie highlighted the increase in severity and frequency of storms around the world, the implications of environmental degradation on small communities, and the challenges of rebuilding in the face of disaster.
Additional panel speakers included Brian Schatz, United States Senator of Hawaii; Sue Biniaz, Senior Fellow for Climate Change, United Nations Foundation; Richard Duke, President, Gigaton Strategies; and Dyanna Jaye, Co-founder of the Sunrise Movement.
The Atlantic Festival was a three-day event through which participants engaged in conversations on society’s most critical issues. Other notable speakers participating in the Festival include Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives; Yo-Yo Ma, internationally acclaimed cellist; and Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap Inc.
