A CLASSIC FLASHBACK PHOTO

CLASSIC PHOTO: I had to share this classic photo posted on Facebook by Winston D. Munnings in BAHAMAS CHRONICLE to include in my archives. All four of the individuals in it were very good friends, but the late Stanley Wilson, brother of Sir Franklyn Wilson, was one of my very best friends.

When I previously lived in Washington, D.C., for 21 years before returning to The Bahamas permanently in 1996, I lived with Stanley in his penthouse apartment at Lucayan Towers on several occasions on visits to Freeport.

Baseball fans in The Bahamas will also recall that Stanley loved baseball and sponsored the Del Jane Baseball team, named  after his clothing store, in the Bahamas Baseball Association (BBA) annual season for several years in the 1970s. Stanley was a truly wonderful and generous friend.

Hugh Bullard, of course, was one of The Bahamas’ outstanding sprinters who represented the country internationally on several occasions, and the late Harry Hall became very active in Bahamian politics when he returned to The Bahamas in the 1960s after attending college and living in the United States for a number of years.

Winston D. Munnings, who shared this classic photo taken at the historic Banana Boat Nightclub, is a noted Bahamian journalist currently living in Florida. He posted it with the following caption:

“The Banana Boat nightclub (Nassau – 1971) … D Olden Daze with mah homies Stanley Wilson, Eucal (Hugh) Bullard, and Harry Hall celebrating my birthday. (They’ve all passed on now, but I remember them still. They were great mates.) The bell bottom checkered plaid slack was really popular back in the day, and ‘Ezra and The Polka Dots’ were the hottest band at The Boat then. Anyone remembers the name of this popular club when New Yorker Frank Manaya first opened it in the late 60’s?  The very first matinee-dance I attended was at this spot.”
