A GRAND DAY FOR UB NORTH

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, March 7, 2022 — The ceremonial signing between the University of The Bahamas (UB) and Vereance & Company for the acquisition of the Kipling Complex took place this morning, signaling the beginning of the official relocation of UB North to Downtown Freeport.

The Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training,, speaking at the ceremonial signing.. Seated at right is Dr. Rodney Smith, President of UB,  and at left is Mrs. Allyson Maynard-Gibson, QC, Chair, Board of Trustees, University of The Bahamas.

Minister for Grand Bahama Hon. Ginger Moxey brought remarks at the ceremony, welcoming the University of The Bahamas-North to the Downtown area, noting that the relocation of the campus to center of Freeport’s commercial activity and the heart of the community will contribute significantly to the revitalization of Downtown and the island of Grand Bahama.

Minister Moxey said the new unit of the Ministry for Grand Bahama ‘Collab: Partnerships for Development’ will work closely with UB North to collaborate on projects that will propel the island forward.

The Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, travelled to Grand Bahama to bring remarks at the ceremonial signing.

Minister Hanna-Martin said the occasion symbolized the “raising up out of the shambles” for UB North after experiencing the devastation of Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

Also bringing remarks were Dr. Ian Strachan, Campus President, University of The Bahamas-North; Dr. Rodney Smith, President Chief Executive Officer, University of The Bahamas; Minister Paxton Cooper, Spokesperson for Vereance & Company; Henry St. George, Director, Grand Bahama Port Authority and Trustee, University of The Bahamas; and Mrs. Allyson Maynard-Gibson, QC, Chair, Board of Trustees, University of The Bahamas.

The signing of the sales contract between University of The Bahamas and Vereance & Company followed remarks, and to commemorate the historic occasion Minister Hanna-Martin and Minister Moxey were presented with copies of the book “Water Has Come” by Bahamian Author Keldra Pinder.
