NASSAU, Bahamas, May 14, 2023 — To women everywhere, especially our Bahamian women who are legendary for always putting their families first, Happy Mothers’ Day.

As a mother and grandmother, myself, I can attest that the old adage “A mother’s work is never done,” is indeed a truism. It is however good and an honour when most of the world can pause to recognize and express appreciation for the simple, routine and repetitive, yet life-changing contributions that mothers consistently make to your civilization and sustained development.

Mothers bring us into this world; they love and care for us unconditionally; they offer leadership, nurturing and guidance; and in too many instances, they must necessarily assume both parental roles. By and large, they perform these dual tasks admirably, often times without protest or complaint.

Our mothers are the ultimate influencers and king makers in that they are perpetually and often quietly preparing the next generation of leaders in all spheres of national life. Further, it is evident that many of the public and private institutions are both led and driven largely by mothers.

It is therefore important that we all honour, pay homage to and extol the virtues of womanhood and motherhood and the occasion of Mothers’ Day provides a universal platform to do just that.

So, on this Mothers’ Day, on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister, I offer these simple words of encouragement and commendation to our mothers: thank you. I appreciate you, I admire your devotion, your selflessness and sense of duty to your family, your community, your church and your country. Our families, communities and countries are stronger and better off because of your spirit of love and service above self.

May Almighty God bless you on this your special day, Mothers’ Day, even as He continues to bless the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
