WASHINGTON, D.C., March 7, 2022 – Today is my 80th birthday and when I woke up this morning the first order or business was to thank my Lord and Savior, who is in the driver’s seat of my life, for blessing me with long life.
This has not been an easy journey for me in my personal life, mainly because of mistakes that I made in my relationships that resulted in four failed marriages.
But all that is “water under the bridge,” as the saying goes, and I hope that whatever time my Lord and Savior blesses me with on this earth will be as enjoyable as yesterday, Sunday, March 6, when my son Dwight and my daughter-in-law Donna spent the entire afternoon with me and we had a pre-birthday celebration.
Donna is originally from Trinidad and she and Dwight met while he was a student at Howard University in the 1980s. They fell in love and eventually got married and now live in Cheverly, Maryland, with my two wonderful grandchildren, Janea and Marco, who are now both in their early twenties.
But getting back to yesterday. It was a wonderful, wonderful afternoon. Dwight and Donna brought a birthday feast that included pizza, tossed salad and sundry other edibles. More importantly, however, my apartment was a mess and they gave it a thorough cleaning over a couple hours.
When I went to the bathroom, where Dwight did a sensational job cleaning-up, I literally cried when I saw the pristine status he had restored to it.
I want to publicly thank Dwight and Donna for making this such an enjoyable birthday, despite my current depressing economic circumstances. GOD IS CERTAINLY GOOD.
