WASHINGTON, D.C., March 21, 2024 – His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, welcomed a delegation from Akhepran International Academy (AIA), including AIA President Dr. Jacinta Higgs, four teachers and seven students, during a courtesy call at the Embassy of The Bahamas, 600 New Hampshire Avenue, N.W., on Friday, March 15,
Their visit to the Embassy served as a culmination of their attendance at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women meeting in New York from Monday, March 11, to Thursday, March 14.
The 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), the United Nation’s largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment, convened on March 11 and is scheduled to end on March 22, under the theme “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”.
The students from AIA, which Is located in Nassau, participated in the CSW68 Youth Forum. The purpose of the trip was to provide the students an opportunity to interact with Bahamian representatives and to offer students valuable insights into the bilateral relations and initiatives of The Bahamas in the United States of America.
During their courtesy visit to the Embassy, Ambassador Jones discussed his role as Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States and also encouraged the students to read more and to educate themselves about what is happening around the world.
In addition to visiting the Embassy, the students also participated in various educational activities and tours, including visits to the Smithsonian African American Museum, the White House, and a few other historical sites.
