WASHINGTON, D.C., February 16, 2023 – His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, who is currently in Nassau for the 44th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, attended the welcome reception hosted by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Usha Pitts at her Skyline Drive residence in honour of CARICOM on Tuesday, February 14.
Prime Minister Philip E. Davis, in his capacity as chairman of CARICOM, is the host of the CARICOM meeting that was formally opened Wednesday evening, February 15, at Atlantis on Paradise Island.
A 27-member U.S. Delegation attending the CARICOM meeting is led by Brian Nichols, U.S. Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, and John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
Prime Minister Davis met with the U.S. Delegation on Tuesday at the Office of the Prime Minister. Also present at that meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, who is also Minister for Tourism, Investments and Aviation; Wayne Munroe, Minister of National Security; Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell; Minister of Immigration and Labour Keith Bell; and Ambassador Jones.
Among the topics discussed during the meeting was the global climate crisis, which is one of the Prime Minister’s top objectives as chairman of CARICOM.
At the welcome reception hosted U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Pitts Tuesday, Mr. Kerry said the reason the U.S. delegation came to The Bahamas for the CARICOM meeting was simply to listen to the concerns of all regional leaders and hear the challenges they face in dealing with the effects of climate change, among other things, according to an article published in The Tribune on Wednesday, February 15.
