EDITOR’S NOTE: The Hon. Michael C. Fountain, Bahamas Honorary Consul to Chicago, posted a collection of photos on Facebook on Tuesday, May 30, and we absolutely had to share some of them with readers of BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and, of course, The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean. The photos were posted with the following narrative:
CHICAGO, Illinois — The Bahamas Head of Mission to the United States of America, His Excellency, Ambassador Wendall K. Jones, met with public and private sector leadership on his first mission to Chicago, facilitated by the Honorable Michael C. Fountain, Bahamas Honorary Consul to Chicago, May 25 through 27, 2023.
Ambassador Jones traveled to Chicago for the purpose of opening categorical stakeholder discussions in order to properly condition the environment for the Prime Minister to formally enter into strategic partnering agreements with key U.S. stakeholders during his visit, in acknowledgement of the 50th Anniversary of Bahamian Independence, later this year.
Honorary Consul Fountain facilitated bilateral meetings with the City of Chicago, World Business Chicago and executive leadership of the Shedd Aquarium and the Art Institute of Chicago. Local leaders engaged Ambassador Jones regarding matters of Bahamian business markets, economic development, education, energy policy, investment, marine science and research, tourism and training and employment opportunities for Bahamians in the Commonwealth and the Midwest Jurisdiction.
Ambassador Jones and Honorary Consul Fountain also provided planning details for the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations occurring throughout the year.
Additionally, WVON interviewed the Ambassador regarding his role as U.S. Head of Mission for The Bahamas and the Ambassador took time to meet with members of the diaspora in Chicago at a dinner hosted by Honorary Consul Fountain and Executive Chef Jeffrey Crittenden.
