WASHINGTON, D.C., August 24, 2022 – His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, officially visited Miami, Florida, for two days to participate in the renaming of an area of Coconut Grove as “Little Bahamas,” honoring the role, history, and contributions of Bahamian immigrants in the City of Miami.”
While in Miami, Ambassador Jones spent some time at the Bahamas Consulate with Consul General Curt Hollingsworth and members of his staff.
Bahamas Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell also participated in the renaming ceremony on Monday, August 22, and the opening of the Frederica Roberts Bahamian Museum of Arts and Culture dedicated to the Bahamian presence in South Florida.
After the ceremony, Congresswoman Frederika Wilson, who is of Bahamian descent, later stated on her Facebook page: “It was a pleasure to celebrate the Little Bahamas of Coconut Grove’s official designation alongside all those who’ve helped make this day a reality! Together, we are finally honoring the role, history, and contributions of Bahamian immigrants in the City of Miami.”
