WASHINGTON, D.C. – His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, paid a courtesy call on Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Representative of California’s 43rd Congressional District and Ranking Member of the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services, at Rayburn House Office Building on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Ambassador Jones and Congresswoman Waters used the occasion to discuss several issues, including the difficulties Bahamians face with de-risking of banks and the impact of policies of the European Union (EU) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on Financial Services in The Bahamas. They also discussed other matters of strategic importance, such as the operations of the AUTEC Naval facility in Andros.

Congresswoman Waters and her husband Sidney Williams, who was U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas from 1994 – 1998, are frequent visitors to The Bahamas, most notably around Christmas time when they traditionally enjoy the Boxing Day Junkanoo Parade in downtown Nassau on December 26.

During Ambassador Williams’ tenure in The Bahamas, the Congresswoman and the Ambassador developed a close friendship with Sir Franklyn Wilson, a highly successful Bahamian businessman, and his wife Lady Sharon Wilson, former President of The Bahamas Senate, and they are usually house guests of the Wilsons on their visits to Nassau.
