WASHINGTON, D.C., August 30, 2022 — Matters of mutual interest between The Bahamas and Italy were discussed when Her Excellency Mariangela Zappia, Italy’s Ambassador to the United States, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, on Tuesday, August 30, at the Embassy of The Bahamas, 600 New Hampshire Avenue N.W.

Among the matters discussed were Financial Services, Climate Change and the growing tourism industry, which both countries are experiencing after the COVID 19 pandemic.

A career diplomat with over 35 years of experience, Ambassador Zappia is the first woman in her country to hold this position, as she was the first woman Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in New York and to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). She has also been the first woman Diplomatic Advisor to the Italian Prime Minister. Ms. Zappia has also been appointed the Italian non-resident  Ambassador to The Bahamas.
