WASHINGTON, D.C., September 1, 2023 – His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, today sent a congratulatory letter to Wayne A. Jones, a Bahamian-American who was sworn in as the first ever Black Chief of Police of Miami Beach, Florida, on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Chief of Police Jones is of Bahamian descent and Ambassador Jones sent the congratulatory message in his capacity as the top Bahamian diplomat in the United States.

“it was with great pride that we at the Embassy of The Bahamas in Washington, D.C., learned of your appointment as the 21st Police Chief of the Miami Beach Police Department,” Ambassador Jones wrote. “Miami Beach is fortunate to have such a dedicated, experienced officer at the helm of its law enforcement.”

Ambassador Jones added, “Your extraordinary commitment to public service is laudable and is no doubt a testament to your upbringing. As the city’s first Black police chief and the first Bahamian, I am confident that the Miami Beach Police Department will go from strength to strength under your leadership. Bahamians throughout our archipelago are elated when one of our native sons through hard work, discipline and determination can excel to lofty heights. We are extremely pleased that as a role model, you can be seen as an exemplar among young men.
