WASHINGTON, D.C., His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, met with Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia on Wednesday, June 22, in his Senate office.

The Senator made history a year ago when he became Georgia’s  first black Senator. As a senior pastor of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was senior pastor, he is the rare voice who calls out the uncomfortable truths that shape contemporary American life at a time of division.

Senator Warnock won a runoff election on January 5, 2021, that helped to dramatically flip control of the Senate to the Democrats at one of the most pivotal moments in recent American history. His historic win, along with the victory of another Democrat, Jon Osso, resulted in the U.S. Senate being tied 50-50, which meant that Vice President  Kamara Harris became the  pivotal figure required to often preside over the U.S. Senate from the presiding officers Chair and break ties on key policy and nominees.
