WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 14, 2023 — The Office of the Prime Minister posted a collection of photos on Facebook on Thursday, September 14, 2023, and I absolutely had to share some of them with readers of my online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

In the narrative that accompanied the photos, the Office of the Prime Minister stated: “Her Excellency the Most Honourable Cynthia A. Pratt hosted a magnificent State Reception at Government House in honor of President Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi and the delegation from Botswana. The night concluded with a vibrant Junkanoo rushout, showcasing the rich Bahamian culture.”

President Masisi, accompanied by First Lady Masisi and a Botswana delegation arrived in The Bahamas on Tuesday for an official two-day state visit. They were welcomed at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) by Prime Minister Davis, Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Alfred Sears and other Bahamian officials.

Botswana and The Bahamas share an historical symbiotic relationship, as both are former colonies of Great Britain and are both currently members of the British Commonwealth.

With a population of 2.3 million, Botswana is a land-locked country that is bounded by Namibia to the west and north, Zambia and Zimbabwe to the northeast, and South Africa to the southeast and south.

The night concluded with a vibrant Junkanoo rushout. First Lady Ann Marie Davis is pictured interacting with one of the junkanoo participants.
