FREEPORT, Grand Bahama — Deborah Anderson Pratt, for whom I developed a great deal of respect professionally and otherwise when she wrote a column for The Freeport News when I was its editor (2003 to 2009), posted this photo on Facebook on Sunday, August 13, 2023, that I had to share with readers of BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

Deborah posted this photo with this insightful narrative:

Enjoyed experiencing the movie, “Barbie,” with my three daughters. There were lots of teachable moments for all of us as females. Here are a few:

From a blonde or brunette in a swimsuit in 1959, Barbie has greatly evolved. She is now “Every Woman”. You don’t have to be a stereotype Barbie/lady. You are enough!

Diversity and inclusion make the world a better place.

You can do the imagining and create dreams of your own instead of being someone else’s idea.

As a mother, my favorite lesson from the movie was, “We mothers stand still so our daughters may look back to see how far they’ve come”.

I love these three young ladies that God has blessed me with. I pray that they will always know that they are enough and with God’s help they can do whatever they desire to. My desire is for them to be more and do more than I have ever done or will ever do. ❤️❤️❤️
