ANNUAL BAHAMAS INDEPENDENCE PICNIC HELD AT FORT BELVOIR PICNIC GROUNDS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The weather was perfect for the annual picnic organized by the Bahamian American Association and held at Statesmen Picnic Grounds at the US Army’s Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia on Saturday, July 7, 2018. The really, really good traditional Bahamian food included  baked chicken, barbequed ribs, cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, fried plantain, apple pie, pound cake, and cup cakes. Plenty of Kalik, Kalik Radler and sky juice were also available. The picnic was one of three events planned for the weekend to celebrate the 45th anniversary of The Bahamas’ attainment of independence from Great Britain. On Friday, July 6, His Excellency Sidney Collie, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the OAS, and Mr. Theo Neilly, Bahamas Consul General to Washington, hosted  a reception at the St. Regis Hotel in downtown Washington, and on Sunday, July 8, Bahamians in the diaspora attended a Church Service at historic Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, 1518 M Street, N.W. In this photo above taken the picnic from left to right are Elisabeth Ann Brown,  Karen Miller, Mary Jane Molik, Mark Pelanne, James McGee, Astrid Inniss and Oswald T.
