BAHAMAS 2018 CHEVENING SCHOLAR:

Therell Smith is a Registered Nurse who has journeyed through the public health care system in The Bahamas as a clinician and now manager in the Quality and Patient Safety Department, Public Hospitals Authority.

Her passion for health care has spilled into the community where she has worked as an executive and member in a cross section of community health organizations including the Cancer Society of the Bahamas, Nurses Association of the Bahamas and Breasfeeding Support Group Bahamas. Therell will pursue a Masters of Science in Health Care Management at Swansea University, Wales. She intends to apply all the knowledge gained in to enhance the quality of care offered to the Bahamian people.

According Chevening Scholars website, Chevening Scholarships are “an important element of Britain’s public diplomacy effort and bring professionals, who have already displayed outstanding leadership talents, to study in the UK.”

“The objective of Chevening is to support foreign policy priorities and achieve FCO objectives by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers,” the website notes.

Chevening marked a special moment in its history at the 2018 Farewell event as the global network of Chevening Alumni reached 50,000. On Wednesday, July 4, 1,649 departing Chevening Scholars came together at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace to celebrate their year as part of the programme.
