NASSAU, Bahamas, May 22, 2021 — His Excellency Sidney S. Collie, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Renward R. Wells, Minister of Health, on Friday, May 21, 2021.
Ambassador Collie, who is currently on “home leave, “advised Minister Wells that The Bahamas had some nine Consulate Offices in the United States and much of his work involved oversight of their operations,” according to release posted on Facebook by the Bahamas Information Services (BIS)
“Minister Wells provided an update on the COVID-19 situation in The Bahamas so that the Ambassador was able to give current information in international fora in which he frequently participates,” the BIS release stated.
The release added: “Discussions ensued regarding variants and the exploration of vaccines that could combat the effects of variants that are now being transmitted in The Bahamas.
“Minister Wells informed that he was hopeful that despite the pandemic, The Bahamas would rebound economically, but strongly emphasized that progress for the future was greatly reliant on the rate at which Bahamians were vaccinated.”
Continuing, the release said: “Both leaders discussed the Government’s prospects and plans. Noteworthy was the fact that cruise ships would be sailing in approximately three months, and the importance of maintaining the COVID-19 health precautions among expected visitors.
“Minister Wells thanked the Ambassador for taking time to call on his office and the Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the Minister’s update and the commitment to remain in close contact for vaccine updates and acquisition.”
