NASSAU, Bahamas, September 3, 2023 – Bahamas Director of Aviation Dr. Kenneth Romer participated in a landmark visit to the highly regarded Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University, a private university focused on aviation and aerospace programs.
During the visit, Dr. Romer engaged in high-level discussions around training and partnership opportunities with University President Dr. P. Barry Butler, along with faculty leaders from The College of Aviation; Department of Aviation Maintenance Science; Enrollment Management, Marketing and Student Affairs and the Gaetz Aerospace Institute.
“This visit supports our historic National Aviation Strategic Plan, with one of the components focusing on strengthening collaboration with respected industry stakeholders to advance training and development opportunities for existing and emerging professionals in The Bahamas Aviation Ecosystem”, said Dr. Romer.
Since the launch of the Strategic Plan in July, The Department of Aviation has established the Bahamas Aeronautical Academy, which seeks to expose participants to global aviation best practices and holistic aeronautics programs.
According to Bahamian native Lashonda Clarke, who also works as a Professor of Aviation Maintenance Science at the University’s Daytona Beach Campus, “The exciting partnership being forged between The Bahamas and Embry Riddle will bring incredible diversity to benefit everyone involved. The exchange of knowledge, ideas, and perspectives will help to broaden horizons and get a fresh perspective on ongoing projects and initiatives”.
Dr. Romer added, “As the Regional Leader in Aviation, we are exploring with focused intentionality, our global alignments and how they can positively affect Bahamians, the region, and potentially the world. We are not just about watching history; we are making history”.
Among the several Bahamian students attending Embry-Riddle University, is 2022 St. John’s College graduate Antonique Greenslade, who is enrolled in The Embry Riddle Aviation Science program.
“As a Bahamian citizen, I felt proud to see Bahamian Aviation leaders visit to our campus, and hope to see the vision for aviation get off the ground, especially for the next generation of Bahamians. It’s really needed”, said Greenslade.
