NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hon. Leroy F. Major, Bahamas Consul General to New York, and consulate staff members on Thursday, June 13, 2024, attended Monroe College’s 2024 Commencement Program held at Radio City Music Hall. The college is celebrating 91 years of its inception under the theme, “91 years of excellence.”
The vast graduating class was split into two ceremonies – at 10 am for graduates of the School of Allied Health Professions, School of Business and Accounting, School of Education and School of Information Technology, and 3 pm the Commencement Program for those graduating from King Graduate School and the School of Criminal and Social Justice, School of Nursing and School of Hospitality Management/CINY, in which many Bahamians took part.
New York State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey and New York State Assemblymember Amanda Septimo delivered Commencement Addresses, respectively, and saluted graduates, who represented over 60 countries, and saw students receive 45 professional and advanced certificates, 997 Associate degrees, 879 Bachelor’s degrees, and 426 Master’s degrees.
In addition to Consul General Major, other Bahamian officials and Consulate staffers present were Nestor T.G. Sands, Deputy Consul General; Mrs. Chilean Burrows, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education & Technical & Vocational Training and Acting Administrator for The Ministry of Education Scholarship & Educational Loan Division; Dr. Sophia A. Rolle, Ph.D. Ministry of Education & Technical & Vocational Training and The Ministry of Education Scholarship & Educational Loan Division consultant; Ms. Jillian Bowe, Press Attache; and Mrs. Savatheda Fynes-Coke, Senior Information Project Officer of the Bahamas Consulate General.
After the ceremonies, Consul General Major and Consulate staffers met with several of the Bahamian student graduates to congratulate them on their accomplishments and wish them well on their future endeavors.
