NEW YORK – Bahamas Consul General to New York Lawrence Cartwright was among those paying their respects to my aunt  the late Maria Elliott-Forbes during the viewing of her body on Tuesday, September 3, from 3 p.m.to 7 p.m. at Sealy Cuyler Funeral Home, 1084 Pacific Street, Brooklyn, New York.

Mrs. Elliott-Forbes, a noted retired Bahamian educator, died in New York on August 21, 2019.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Roman Catholic Church, Deveaux Street, Nassau, and interment will be at Western Cemetery.

Originally from Stanyard Creek, Andros, Mrs. Elliott-Forbes had been living in Brooklyn for the past several years with her niece Norma Elliott, who grew up with her in Nassau and still called her “mommy.”

“Mommy had a wonderful viewing today at Sealy Cuyler, which was attended by the Bahamas Council General. Many of my colleagues from work, friends from my church and my sistergroup came to pay their respect to mommy,” Norma noted in an email.

Consul General Cartwright also commented on the viewing in an email, nothing that although it was “a sad occasion, I was happy to meet some of the family members of the late Mrs. Maria Elliott-Forbes yesterday at the funeral home. Spoke at length with her niece Norma and sister.”
