The Hon. Leroy F. Major, Bahamas Consul General to New York, with His Excellency Željko Komšić, the current Croat member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 26, 2024 – The Hon. Leroy F. Major, Bahamas Consul General to New York, yesterday joined members of Congress and members of the diplomatic corps at a special congressional viewing of the film “Kiss the Future” at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center’s Congressional Auditorium.

Sponsored by Congresswoman Ann Wagner, Representative for Missouri’s 2nd District, the event was organized by the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Washington, D.C.  Congresswoman Wagner was the United States ambassador to Luxembourg from 2005 to 2009.

Produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Sarah Anthony, “Kiss the Future” is a critically acclaimed documentary based on screenwriter Bill Carter’s memoir about the 1990s siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War. The film centers on the underground community that uses art and music to make change and get global attention by inspiring an American aid worker to notify one of the world’s biggest bands, U2, to help bring awareness to the conflict.

Viewers follow the band’s promise in the film to perform a post-war concert that featured U2 playing to over 45,000 fans in a liberated city that lives on as a joyous memory for the people of Sarajevo. Attendees of the film took part in a Q&A and also viewed a special message from Matt Damon. The event was held in honor of the United States’ role in ending the siege and also establishing the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
