WASHINGTON, D.C., October 11, 2024 – Whether or not he was an avid baseball fan before he became Bahamas Consul General to New York, Leroy F. Major, who overall is doing a fantastic job as The Bahamas’ top diplomat in New York, is now one of the biggest fans of the New York Yankees.
The reason for Consul General Major’s enthusiastic support of the Yankees, of course, is Jazz Chisholm Jr., the Bahamian superstar third baseman of the Yankees, who advanced to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) after defeating the Kansas City Royals, 3-1, on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
The Yankees acquired Chisholm from the Marlins in exchange for three prospects in July and almost instantenously he became one of the most potent players on the team, displaying power hitting consistently and better-than-average speed while swiping bases.
Voted in as the National League’s starting second baseman for the 2022 All-Star Game, Chisholm spent the vast majority of his sojourn with Marlins in center field, where he moved in order to make room for Miami’s acquisition of All-Star second baseman Luis Arraez. After Arraez was traded to the Padres in May, Chisholm returned to second a couple of times a week to cut back on how much running he was doing in the outfield.
The Yankees, however, had Aaron Judge, its most valuable player, in centerfield and Juan Soto, arguably its second most valuable player, in rightfield, so Chisholm was assigned to third base, where he has demonstrated that he is indeed a sensational baseball player.
Here is what Judge had to say about Chisholm after he was acquired by theYankees: “He’s a dynamic player. You can throw him up at the leadoff spot or wherever, he’s going to definitely lengthen this lineup. He’s a weapon. You can put him on the outfield, anywhere in the infield. He’s got speed, he’s got power and all of us are pretty excited to have him on board.”
