BAHAMAS CHRONICLE congratulates the Hon. Lawrence Cartwright, Bahamas Consul General to New York, Consul Joy A. Newbold and the entire staff of The Bahamas Consulate General New York on the launch of their newly designed website, which you can access at www.bahamasny.com.
The New York tri-state area, which includes New Jersey and Pennsylvania, is a “melting pot” for widespread activities involving the extremely large community of Bahamians in the diaspora, and I am particularly proud of the fact that during my four-plus years as Press, Cultural Affairs and Information Manager at The Bahamas Embassy in Washington, D.C., I had a very good working relationship with the then Consul General to New York, the Hon. Forrester Carroll, and provided very good coverage of New York Consulate events.
When my diplomatic appointment in Washington, D.C. ended following the change of government in The Bahamas in May of 2017, I decided to remain in D.C. and have established THE BROWN AGENCY LLC, which offers a variety of services, including writing press releases, promotional articles, editing and proofreading.
I also publish an online news publication BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which was launched to keep Bahamians and nationals from other Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries living in the diaspora up-to-date on selected news from their respective countries. In addition to The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE has attracted a huge following across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
More than a year ago, I submitted a proposal to the government to continue doing what I did at The Embassy on a contractual basis, and I am still “holding out hopes” that I shall receive a positive response. Meanwhile, I have been covering some events of the various Bahamian foreign missions in BAHAMAS CHRONICLE without compensation under the “rubric” of legitimate news.
