CHICAGO, Illinois — The Hon. Michael C. Fountain, Bahamas Honorary Consul to Chicago, welcomed The Bahamas Mt. Moriah Transformers Band during a courtesy call at the office of the Bahamas Consulate Chicago on November 21, 2018. The Transformers are in Chicago to march in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 22.

Consul Fountain entertained questions from the 13 visiting delegates (out of 60 total participating) about his background and the history of the consul post and expressed great pride and expectation for their historic participation in the parade.

Started in 1934, this marks the 84th year that the parade has been held every Thanksgiving morning. It was the first appearance of the Bahamas Transformers as one of only 21 participating marching bands. Local, national and international businesses holding title responsibilities over the years have included: McDonald’s, Marshall Field’s, Brach’s Confections, Inc., Target and Uncle Dan’s Outdoor Store.

The Bahamas Transformers are an internationally qualified marching team, whose members, ages 7 to 70, focus as a family on experience, exposure and opportunities for Bahamian youth and young adults. Through the discipline of technical exercises, drills and showmanship, the organization’s leaders work every day to ensure the positive, productive impact of the future leaders of The Bahamas.
