BAHAMAS HONOURED AS FEATURED COUNTRY FOR CHARLESTON CARIFEST

ATLANTA, Georgia, June 22, 2023 — In commemoration of The Bahamas’ 50th Independence anniversary, The Bahamas Consulate in Atlanta along with the Charleston Carifest Committee will host a three-day weekend of celebrations during the18th Charleston Carifest from June 29 to July 1, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Noting that The Bahamas “has been bestowed the honour of being the featured country”, the Hon.An thony D.E. Moss, Consul General in Atlanta, said that on Thursday, June 29 at 6 pm, the Consulate General in Atlanta will host the “Until the Road, You’ve Trod” Historical Symposium at the Beatty Center, College of Charleston.

The symposium will feature His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, and Dr. Chris Curry, associate professor of history at the University of the Bahamas. It will be hosted by Mrs. Malika Pryor-Martin from the newly commissioned International African American Museum.

Ambassador Wendall Jones will participate in a symposium on Thursday, July 29.

The panel will discuss The Bahamas’ “road to our fiftieth jubilee, our colorful history and global influence,” according to press release. A welcome reception will follow.

On Friday, June 30, The Charleston Carifest Committee will host an All White Fete, which will feature two of The Bahamas’ premier DJ’s.

“On Saturday, July 1, 2023, the Consulate General of The Bahamas Atlanta alongside our national sponsors and partners invite you to the ‘Bahamas Takeover’ of the 18th Charleston Carifest at Brittle Bank Park,” the release noted, and invited the public to “Come and enjoy a taste of our culture, cuisine and music as we celebrate our 50th jubilee.”
