BAHAMAS PARTICIPATES IN UNITED NATIONS DAY CELBRATIONS IN DC

Mr. Theo Neilly, Bahamas Consul General to Washington, D.C., carried the flag of The Bahamas in the “Procession of Nations” at the United Nations Day celebrations held at the Oneness-Family School in Bethesda, Maryland.

WASHINGON, D.C., October 31, 2018  — The Bahamas has been well represented at United Nations Day celebrations in the District of Columbia over the years and it is good to see that current Bahamas Consul General to D.C. Theo Neilly has kept up that tradition based on two photos posted on The Bahamas Consular Annex Facebook page.

Diplomats are pictured with the flags of their respective countries at the United Nations celebrations held on Friday, October 24, at the Oneness-Family School in Bethesda.

This year’s United Nations Day celebrations were held on Wednesday, October 24, at Oneness-Family School in Bethesda, Maryland,  which has celebrated United Nations Day annually for the past 29 years. Fittingly, the school has a multicultural student body that includes students from more than 60 countries.

Hailed as one of the largest United Nations Day celebrations in Washington DC, “students were joined by numerous ambassadors and diplomats from embassies reaching every geographic region of the globe,” according to the school’s website.

Noting that diplomats carry their national flag in the annual Procession of Nations, the website states, “Every year close to 60 embassies participate in the United Nations Day program at the school to support the initiative and to interact with the students who present a cultural program for the guests. Diplomats also visit the classrooms to view the displays of the countries the students are studying and enjoy an international luncheon prepared by the parents who come from some 50 different nations.”
