WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Permanent Mission of The Bahamas facilitated a meeting on October 11, 2022, between the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), led by President Hyginus Leon, and the OAS to discuss opportunities for cooperation to support development in OAS Member States, particularly in the Caribbean.
Such efforts are in line with the Permanent Mission’s strategic objective of supporting the strengthening of collaboration between the OAS and relevant, prospective partners in The Bahamas and wider Caribbean region.
Areas identified for potential joint collaboration between the two institutions include: support for Member State climate action; support for the creative sector and creative entrepreneurs within the region; support for boosting multilingualism through language training in the region; and coordination on efforts around mobilizing greater access to affordable development and climate finance and improving global criteria used to assess financing need.
While there is an existing MOU between both entities dating to 1996, both sides committed to working towards the crafting of more comprehensive partnership agreement to be signed in the near future.
Those present at the meeting from the OAS Secretariat included: Assistant Secretary General Nestor Mendez; Executive Secretary for Integral Development Kim Osborne; Chief of Staff to the Secretary General Gonzalo Koncke; Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary General La Celia Prince and Advisor in the Office of the Assistant Secretary General Jacinth Henry-Martin.
The Caribbean Development Bank was represented by President Leon and his advisor Andrea Power. The Mission was represented by Permanent Representative Chet Neymour and Alternate Representative Mikhail Bullard.
