BAHAMAS PRESS CLUB SADDENED BY DEATH OF VERA JANE CHASE

Vera Jane Chase, who died on June 2, was president of the Commonwealth Writers of The Bahamas.

NASSAU, Bahamas, June 4, 2022 – In a statement released today, Bahamas Press Club President Anthony Capron sated: “The Bahamas Press Club 2014 is saddened by the passing of Mrs. Vera Jane Chase, nee Poitier, president of the Commonwealth Writers of The Bahamas, who died June 2, 2022.

“A published author, Mrs. Chase began writing as a child in Sacred Heart School and Xavier’s College. A career banker with Royal Bank of Canada, her writing continued throughout her life.

“Vera possessed a strong sense and love of history and family, and in conversations, she often reminded people of her Cat Island ‘Poitier’ roots.

“She had an affinity with and bonded well with young and aspiring writers, whom she gladly helped hone their creative skills.

“We send condolences to her family; she will be sorely missed.”
