WASHINGTON, D.C., December 10, 2018 — A Bahamian delegation that includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren A. Henfield, Minister of National Security Marvin Dames, Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson and Commodore Tellis Bethel arrived in Washington, D.C. this afternoon to participate in a Ministerial-led Dialogue on Counter Terrorism in the Western Hemisphere at the US State Department on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
The delegation was met at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport by His Excellency Sidney Collie, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS).
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan is hosting the Western Hemisphere Counterterrorism Ministerial, in which senior officials from 12 key North, Central, and South American partners are participating, including Argentina, The Bahamas, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Trinidad and Tobago, according to a State Department statement.
“Brazil will participate in an observer role. Senior counterterrorism and security officials from the Departments of Justice, Treasury, Homeland Security, and the U.S. Intelligence Community will also participate in the meeting,” the statement noted.
“Participating governments will discuss the threat that transnational terrorist groups, including ISIS, al-Qa’ida and Lebanese Hizballah, pose to the collective security and safety of their citizens at home and abroad,” the statement added.
Deputy Secretary Sullivan will deliver opening remarks in the Department of State’s Loy Henderson auditorium at 9:00 am.
