NASSAU, Bahamas — The second edition of the Miami Marlins’ Bahamian Heritage Night is set for June 25 at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida,  That announcement came at a press conference held by the Bahamas Baseball Association (BBA) and the Miami Marlins at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium on Thursday, April 7, The Nassau Guardian reported on Friday, April 8.

The main attraction that day will be second baseman, Bahamian Jasrado ‘Jazz’ Chisholm, as he and the Marlins take on the New York Mets at 4:10 p.m. The first Bahamian Heritage Night was June 12, 2021.

Secretary General of the BBA Teddy Sweeting said he is excited for the second edition of Bahamian Heritage Night, done by the Marlins.

“We want this one to be the most exciting one with the reason being that this is an awesome opportunity for Bahamians who want – we always go to Miami, pick the weekend of June 25 to come over, do your shopping and celebrate with us. This is a great opportunity for us to grow sports tourism. We are not on our shores but it is still sports tourism as we support the ongoing development of baseball in our country.”

Representative from the Marlins, Brad Johnson, said with the restrictions lifted, they hope to have a bigger crowd.

“We are looking to not only surpass what we did last year but bring more of the general community out to have an opportunity to celebrate Bahamian Heritage. Last year, we were limited a little because of some of the restrictions. We were only allowed 7,500 people in the stands. This year, everybody can come so there are no restrictions,” Johnson said.

The deadline to purchase the package is two weeks before the game. In addition to a Bahamian Heritage jersey for those who purchase the package, Johnson said they are looking to sing The Bahamas’ national anthem, host a concert, and Bahamian food will be on sale. The Marlins are hoping that they can get Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis to throw out the first pitch.
