BIDDER CONFIDENT IT CAN DEVELOP NASSAU’S CRUISE PORT FOR $125 MILLION

GERALD STRACHAN

NASSAU, Bahamas — The Cruise Line Group (CLG) and Cruise Port International (CPI) partnership is confident it can develop the Port of Nassau for $125 million, the Nassau Guardian reported January 3.

In a release CPI claimed that bids from the competing bidders came in at $250 million and $225 million. The other bidders have not been formally announced, nor have the bids been made public.

CPI’s release said the competing bids are high, are “partly unnecessary and cover areas and issues not addressed in the RFP (request for proposals), will likely negatively impact the long-term viability of the port”.

The CLG, which includes Carnival Corporation, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruises, stressed “it will be motivated” to increase cruise traffic to Nassau in the future.

“The cruise group boasts of a long and close relationship with The Bahamas – up to 50 years in some cases – and has worked together for many years to provide shared value. In its five decades of calling on the Nassau cruise port, the group has gathered many insights on how to improve service at the port,” the release notes.

CPI President Gerald Strachan said the cruise lines know what is needed to satisfy their customers.

“We have leaned heavily on this decades-long experience that our cruise line partners have in The Bahamas, as well as the experience they have in the region,” he said. https://thenassauguardian.com/2019/01/03/bidder-confident-it-can-redevelop-nassaus-cruise-port-for-125-mil/
