BAHAMAS CHRONICLE EDITOR’S NOTE: Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, who is also Minister of Tourism, Investment and Aviation and MP for The Exumas and Ragged Island, posted the photo above on Facebook on Monday, March 25, 2024. I absolutely had to share it and the accompanying narrative with readers of my Washington, D.C. – based online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean. Here is the narrative that accompanied the photo:

“I had the honor of attending the installation banquet of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce Saturday night, along with Mrs. Cooper. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to James Carey on his remarkable third consecutive term as Chairman of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce.

Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper chats with Sarah St. George, Acting Chairman of the Grand Bahama Port Authority at the GB Chamber of Commerce installation banquet on Saturday night. At left is Nevar Smith, who noted on his Facebook that he was really “honored to have been installed as a director of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce last evening” and is “looking forward to doing my part in helping Grand Bahama’s economy grow and flourish.”

The evening was not just a festive gathering but also a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to Grand Bahama’s future.

In the presence of notable attendees, and as a former Bahamas Chamber of Commerce Chairman and businessman, I reminded them that GBI’s potential is anchored in cooperation and inclusivity. We are poised to seize real investment opportunities that are both present and on the horizon.

Despite the challenges we face, our resolve is unwavering to deepen the business community’s participation in the economy. The agencies of the Government stand ready to support entrepreneurs.

Here’s to James Carey and the entire board for steering this ship with vision and tenacity.

Big things are happening in Grand Bahama and we want to position as many Grand Bahamians as possible to take part.”
