WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 13, 2023 – On the first full day of his two-day official state visit to The Bahamas, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi today was welcomed to The Bahamas by Prime Minister Philip E. Davis and members of his Cabinet.

In a post on Facebook that accompanied a collection of photos, Prime Minister Davis said the “two leaders shared ideas and discussed steps to strengthen ties” and that on Thursday they “will come together again for a press conference to provide more details to the public about the new ways of cooperation between the two nations.”

President Masisi, accompanied by First Lady Masisi and a Botswana delegation arrived in The Bahamas, on Tuesday and were welcomed at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) by Prime Minister Davis, Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Alfred Sears and other Bahamian officials.

Botswana and The Bahamas share an historical symbiotic relationship, as both are former colonies of Great Britain and are both currently members of the British Commonwealth.

With a population of 2.3 million, Botswana is a land-locked country that is bounded by Namibia to the west and north, Zambia and Zimbabwe to the northeast, and South Africa to the southeast and south.
