NASSAU, Bahamas, August 23, 2019 — Her Excellency Sarah Dickson, new British High Commissioner to The Bahamas, paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Philip “Brave” Davis, Leader of the Opposition Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), at the office of the Leader of the Opposition on Friday, August 23, 2019.
The Opposition Leader presented the High Commissioner with a gift. Also present were former Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Fred Mitchell, Chairman of the PLP, and Ms. Donna Watt, Acting Deputy High Commissioner.
The High Commissioner presented her letter of introduction to Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis on Wednesday, August 21, at the Office of the Prime Minister, officially marking the re-establishment of the British High Commissioner’s office in The Bahamas following a 14-year absence.
A Cambridge graduate who has an MBA, Mrs. Dickson is a former British Ambassador to Guatemala and Honduras from June 2012 – August 2015, but most recently she was Global Affairs Director, based in London, for Scotch Whisky Association from August 2015 – June 2019.
Her previous experiences as a British diplomat include postings at the British Embassy in Madrid, Spain, from January 2005 to August 2010 and the British Embassy in Buenos Aires from June 1997 to July 2000.
The last resident British High Commissioner to The Bahamas was Peter Young, who served from 1996 to 1999 when the high commission closed, and the British High Commission in Kingston assumed responsibility for the maintenance of diplomatic relations between the UK and The Bahamas.
