NASSAU, Bahamas – A lawsuit by web shop owners could see the government lose at least $8 million in revenue as a result of what could be a prolonged delay in the implementation of the new sliding-scale tax on gaming house operators and a stamp tax on gaming patrons, the Nassau Guardian reported Monday September 3.
That’s a conservative number that takes into account what the government has so far failed to collect from web shops this fiscal year because of the impasse, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest.
However, he suggested that number could balloon if the current suspension of the collection of those taxes is extended because the parties fail to resolve the issue when they meet in court next month. https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/09/03/budget-goals-could-shift/
