C.A. SMITH SWORN IN AS DEPUTY TO THE GOVERNOR GENERAL

NASSAU, Bahamas, June 8, 2019 — Cornelius A. Smith was sworn in as Deputy to the Governor General by Acting Chief Justice Vera Watkins during a brief ceremony at Government House on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Her Excellency the Most Hon. Dame Marguerite Pindling, Governor General, is currently in London, where she was greeted on her arrival at Heathrow International Airport on Saturday, June 8, by His Excellency Ellison Greenslade, QPM,  Bahamas High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Mr. Bruce Houlder, CB QC DL, officially greeted Dame Marguerite on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen. Although there has been no  official announcement from the Government, it is believed that Dame Marguerite is in London to officially inform Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whom she represents in The Bahamas as Governor General, that she shall be demitting office later this month.
