NASSAU, Bahamas – Many who support the annual Bahamas Carnival, especially the Road Fever parade, slammed The Bahamas Christian Council on Thursday, after the religious body claimed that the event, set for this weekend, is vulgar and sexually charged.
Former Chairman and Marketing Spokesperson for the Bahamas Carnival Band Owners Association, Dario Tirelli, on Thursday defended Carnival, expressing that the church has the whole idea misconstrued.
“It’s fear-mongering, as though alcohol creates sexual violence. That doesn’t happen,” Tirelli told Eyewitness News Online.
“Carnival is all about fun. Same thing as the music of Rake n’ Scrape and Junkanoo, it is all about fun. I don’t think they should put that fear in The Bahamas.”
Earlier this week, president of The Bahamas Christian Council, Apostle Delton Fernander, said Carnival continues to challenge the moral, ethical, and cultural traditions and practices of The Bahamas.
According to Fernander, the band owner’s association now organizes and stages their Road Fever event, which is comprised of individuals wearing very little clothing, consuming alcohol, and performing sexual acts throughout the streets of New Providence. https://ewnews.com/carnival-supporters-slam-christian-council?fbclid=IwAR1IOFywH_KrsDxl4qtuXaU4eqECJdFbbfv6Vt04ZWWPatzfI-4iCro6jQg
