NASSAU, Bahamas, August 5, 2023 — Senator Ronald Duncombe today posted a collection of photos on Facebook that were taken at the 32nd Annual Festival in Gambier Village. We decided to share them with readers of BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean. The photos were posted with the following narrative:

CELEBRATING OUR HERITAGE, BUILDING OUR FUTURE

Senator Ronald Duncombe, along with the Executive Team and NexGen Mentees, visited Gambier Village Opening Service for the 32nd Annual Festival (2023), being held this year under the theme, “Celebrating Our Heritage, Building Our Future”.

“The Mentees and Executive Board Members were more than happy to show their support for NexGen Mentee Ashad Miller in his community of Killarney,” Senator Duncombe said. “The Mentees were inspired by the rich traditions on display, community support as well as how the event served as a great reminder of the connections that bind us together.”

He added, “We would like to thank the organizers of the festival, especially Nirean Clarke, Mistress of Ceremony, and the residents of Gambier Village for their warm welcome and hospitality shown to us during our visit.”

EDITOR’S NOTE: As the Progressive Liberal Party’s candidate in September 16, 2021 general election, which the PLP won by a landslide to oust then Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis and the Free National Movement (FNM) as the government of The Bahamas, Senator Duncombe ran a very close race against Dr. Minnis, the incumbent MP for the Killarney Constituency. Dr. Minnis was re-elected with 51 percent of the votes, which represented 2,501 of the 4,881 votes cast. This compared to 73 percent of the votes he received when he won in that constituency in 2017.

Commenting on the Gambier Village Opening Service for the 32nd Annual Festival in a caption for one of the photos, Senator Duncombe said the presence of the NexGen Mentees at this event “signifies a commitment to community, mentorship, and the shared values that bind us.”

“Together, they stand as a symbol of the bright future we are building in Killarney and beyond,” Senator Duncombe said.
