CITIBANK BUILDING ON UNIVERSITY DRIVE RENAMED THE EDWIN “SMILEY” BASTIAN CORPORATE CENTER

NASSAU, Bahamas, March 2, 2023 — Prime Minister Philip E. Davis today participated the renaming and rededication ceremony of the former Citibank Building on University Drive to the Edwin “Smiley” Bastian Corporate Center. Mr. Bastian was a philanthropist, political activist and Rotarian.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister praised the posthumous recognition of Edwin “Smiley” Bastian, and encouraged attendees to use the 50th year of Independence as an opportunity to memorialize the life and work of significant personalities in their own lives.

Noting that as we mark our 50th year of independence we celebrate those who have contributed greatly to our society, the Prime Minister said, “The vision and courage and determination of so many people, have brought us to this moment. We are the children and grand-children of those visionary, courageous and determined people.”

Edwin “Smiley” Bastian is the father of prominent Bahamian businessman and Island Luck CEO Sebastian Bastian, who noted in a comment that accompanied a photo on his Facebook page that was   taken at the event, “Today it was such an honor to have the opportunity to name this building after my greatest hero my father, Edwin “Smiley” Bastian.  Now more than ever as fathers we must leave more than just assets behind for our children; we must leave an example for them to live by.”
