NASSAU, Bahamas, March 20, 2022 — Mrs. Aubynette Rolle, the Public Hospitals Authority’s (PHA) Acting Managing Director, led a multi-sectoral team on a four-day trip to Cuba from March 7 – 11 with the express purpose of interviewing and engaging Allied Health Professionals and Physicians to support the delivery of healthcare and related services at PHA institutions, according to a report on the ZNS Network Facebook page.
The PHA has engaged six Pharmacists, four Biomedical Engineers, two Ophthalmologists, one Nephrologist, and one Radiologist.
They are expected to arrive in The Bahamas before the end of April 2022 and will be deployed to the Princess Margaret in New Providence and the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
“With the onboarding of these qualified professionals, the PHA anticipates a strengthening of cross training opportunities between the staff from the Republic of Cuba and The Bahamas,” the report noted.
In speaking to the engagement of Cuban health professionals Acting MD Rolle said, “This enhances our complement of human resources available to serve the Bahamian people.”
The engagement of these Allied Health Professionals and Physicians follows the PHA’s onboarding of some 50 Nurses from the Republic of Cuba earlier this year to mitigate the impact of the 4th Wave of COVID-19 infections on health professionals.
