CULMER BROTHERS ENJOYING THEMSELVES AT THE NATIONAL FAMILY ISLAND REGATTA

GEORGE TOWN, Exuma, April 26, 2019 — Knowing that I lived in Freeport for 12 years prior to moving to Washington, D.C.., my good friend Cordell Thompson sent me this photo of my friend Sanford Culmer (right), who lives in Freeport, and his brother Stuart “hanging out” yesterday at a restaurant and bar in George Town, Exuma, where 66th National Family Island Regatta is currently underway. Of course, bar-hopping is a popular activity during the regatta and Cordell, a retired journalist who lives in Exuma, was “rubbing it in” by letting me see what I was missing.  Recognized as one of The Bahamas’ major sporting events, the National Family Island Regatta was introduced in 1954 and is staged annually the last full week of April. During the regatta, Exuma’s economy receives a tremendous boost as visitors from throughout The Bahamas and abroad flock to the island mainly to see the races, but also to enjoy the various social events staged during the weekend.
