D’AGUILAR SAYS GOV’T WORKING ON “PLAN B” AFTER SUNWING ANNOUNCEMENT

NASSAU, Bahamas — Tourism Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar said yesterday that the government is in talks with Bahamasair and other airlift companies as it seeks to find a “Plan B” after Sunwing Travel Group announced that it will pull out of Grand Bahama next year.

“We are obviously going to Plan B,” D’Aguilar told reporters outside Cabinet. “It was rather a shock. [We] certainly didn’t know that that was going to happen. But the benefit is that they’ve given us some time to prepare. We are working very closely with Bahamasair. We are working with other airlift partners. The time that has elapsed since this letter is short so we’re obviously into mitigation plans to work something out and we’ll get something sorted for next summer of next year.”

Sunwing announced last week that it intends to pull out of Grand Bahama due to its impasse with the government. See BAHAMAS CHRONICLE at https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/10/17/daguilar-govt-working-on-plan-b-after-sunwing-announcement/
