D’AGUILAR: TOURISM PERFORMANCE “EXCEPTIONAL” IN FIRST QUARTER

NASSAU, Bahamas — With tourism numbers spiking in the first quarter of 2018, Tourism Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar said the economy saw an additional $90 million to $100 million spent in The Bahamas by stopover visitors, whose numbers were up 18 percent, as compared to

last year.

According to D’Aguilar, an additional 63,000 people visited this country in the first quarter of the year, something the minister called “exceptional”. He said cruise passenger arrivals remained flat in the first quarter, but explained that when it comes to tourism’s impact on the economy, stopover visitors generate more revenue, given their extended time in the country.
