Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest

NASSAU, Bahamas — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest said yesterday the government is on track to meet its fiscal targets and reduce the annual deficit, the Guardian reported October 30.

The government released a report on the budgetary performance of the country for the first quarter of the fiscal year.

“Performance trends are certainly moving in the right direction when we compare budget performance to the same quarter last fiscal year,” Turnquest said in a statement. “Naturally, we are happy to see that revenue is up; the deficit is down by more than 50 percent year-on-year, and growth in overall expenditure was less than one percent. But we ought not to read too much into the numbers at this point because it is the first quarter [and] there is still a lot of hard work to do. Nonetheless, we are cautiously optimistic that the government is on track to meet its fiscal targets which called for a substantial reduction in our annual deficit…” https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/10/30/deficit-down-by-over-50-percent-govt-reports/
