WASHINGTON, D.C., January 27, 2024 — Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, who is also Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation and MP for The Exumas and Ragged Island, today posted a collection of photos on Facebook that I absolutely had to share with readers of my Washington, D.C.—based online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom:

DPM Cooper posted the photos with the following narrative:

During my recent visit to the Florida State Capitol, I had a productive meeting with Dr. Larry Robinson, President of Florida A&M University (FAMU), along with distinguished Bahamian and former Dean of Agriculture & Food Science Dr. Robert Taylor; in an effort to strengthen ties and enhance opportunities for Bahamian students.

FAMU holds significance for many Bahamians, as many call it their alma mater and it has provided numerous scholarships for Bahamians and produced graduates who have gone on to do great things. Additionally, I hosted a meet-and-greet with Bahamian students and the diaspora, providing updates on progress in The Bahamas.

I encouraged them to contribute to nation-building, no matter where life takes them, emphasizing that “The Bahamas is Home”.

Bahamians have the capacity to shape the world, but even if we are not here, we must always reach back to move The Bahamas forward as so many have done and continue to do.
