DR. DARVILLE MEETS WITH PAHO DIRECTOR

GENEVA, Switzerland, May 28, 2024 — The Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, Bahamas Minister of Health and Wellness, along with Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pearl McMillian and Acting Director of Public Health Dr. Phillip Swann today met with Dr. Jabas Barbosa, Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), at the 77th World Health Assembly currently underway in Geneva.

The Bahamas’ delegation, led by Dr. Darville, is among the thousands of government officials, global health experts, and advocates from around the world participating the World Health Assembly, which is described as “the preeminent health gathering of the year.”

A Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge on Sunday, May 26, that was organized by the Global Health Council (GHC) provided a healthy kickstart to Assembly, GHC noted on its website that the World Health Organization (WHO) joined with “the UN family, Member States, athletes, local sports clubs’ health partners and the Geneva community to celebrate the importance of healthy lifestyles and demonstrate measures to safely conduct public events.”

Several members of the Bahamian delegation participated in the Walk the Talk for All Challenge, which was  described as an in-person event that invites “participants to run, walk, use your wheelchair, or move in any other way over two routes: 3 km and 4.2 km.”
