“DREAM WALL OF RESPECT” UNVEILED ON LEWIS STREET

NASSAU, Bahamas — Stephanie L. Bowers, Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Nassau, seems to enjoy getting actively involved in local activities. This photo was one of a collage of photos taken on Saturday, March 30, 2019 of the unveiling of the “Dream Wall of Respect” on Lewis Street, an Initiative formed in partnership with Transforming Spaces and the Lend A Hand Bahamas Community Center.

They were posted on Facebook by Pamela Burnside of Doongalik Studios, who described the opening as “inspiring” and added: “We witnessed the awesome power of Art to transform community through collaboration! The showers of blessings that sprinkled upon us all were the affirmations of the ancestors! A sincere thank you to everyone involved and we look forward to the continuation of the transformation!”

I certainly hope that this Over-the-Hill artistic display becomes a regular tourist attraction and its popularity helps to change the image of Over-the-Hill as a crime-infested area.

In the top photo, Stephanie L. Bowers, Charge d’Affaires  at U.S. Embassy in Nassau, is fifth from left and next to her at right is Rosalie Fawkes, daughter of the late Sir Randol Fawkes, legendary Bahamian labour leader and politician. At far left is noted Bahamian artist Antonius Roberts.
